I visited Argentina in January 2023 for 3 weeks on an epic trip with my friend that ended with our friend’s wedding in Mendoza. We spent months planning this itinerary and figuring out the perfect way to see as much as possible while we were on this side of the world. There is not much I would change about our itinerary at all. Yes, it was a LOT of domestic flights and moving between hotels but we honestly got to see everything we wanted to, didn’t feel like anywhere was too short, and each place was better than the next. Keep reading to learn about my Argentina travel tips and my epic 3 week Argentina itinerary below.

Argentina Tips: What To Expect For Argentina Travel
- When flying into (likely) Buenos Aires, the capital city, if you are connecting to another destination MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE AIRPORTS! If you think you can get from the international airport (EZE) to the domestic airport (AEP) with only a 2 hour layover you are wrong. My recommendation would be to either do Buenos Aires first, or stay over in Buenos Aires for a night and then continue on to the domestic location from AEP the next day. It’s not worth risking it! They are not close at all and there is a ton of traffic in Buenos Aires. And when you have the choice for all of your domestic flights, try to choose AEP instead of EZE! It’s right in the center of the city versus EZE which is 45 minutes away.

The Best Argentina Places To Travel
We did a three week Argentina itinerary starting in Uruguay (Punta del Este) then 1 night in Buenos Aires, 2 nights in Iguazu, 3 nights in Bariloche, 3 nights in Calafate, 3 nights in Buenos Aires, and then ending with 3 nights in Mendoza for our friends wedding! We felt like we got to see so much of the country and each place was SO drastically different to one another it was amazing. ARGENTINA TIP: I highly recommend including all of the areas of Argentina in your itinerary. Just going for Patagonia or just Buenos Aires is not a good representation of the entire country!

Argentina Currency
Argentinian Pesos. NOTE: Argentina’s government is corrupt and going through political turmoil. This means that the peso exchange rate changes EVERY day. Additionally, Argentina is very unique in that they have a regular bank FX rate and then the ‘blue rate’, which is basically the underground rate but is what everyone uses. As of January 2023, you could get 50% more from your exchange by exchanging through an exchange person vs. through a bank. I will explain this below. Please note that this is changing daily and with elections in Argentina in Fall 2023 it will (hopefully) stabilize.
Argentina Language
Spanish! But if you think it’s regular Spanish, think again. Argentinians have a unique Spanish that is used here and not anywhere else! But knowing regular spanish is fine and they can understand. Everyone in Buenos Aires mostly spoke Spanish but it was a bit harder in Patagonia and more remote places.
Argentina Highlights: Other Argentina Travel Tips
- ARGENTINA PACKING TIPS: The desert is ridiculously hot during the day and freezing at night! Patagonia is cold! Santiago’s summers are warm and winters are chilly. You’ll need tons of different clothes for the climates here. You will also need tons of sunscreen. For all of my travel/packing essentials I bring on any trip compiled together, head to my influencer page on Amazon here for a complete list or my descriptive carry-on packing guide here or my favorite travel gear guide here!
- Travel Insurance: Unfortunately, things can and do go wrong when you travel. World Nomads offers coverage for more than 150 activities as well as emergency medical, lost luggage, trip cancellation and more. Buy at home or while traveling and claim online from anywhere in the world. We receive a fee when you get a quote from World Nomads using this link. We do not represent World Nomads. This is not a recommendation to buy travel insurance.
